Missing Lakefield man (68) found drinking coffee at petrol station

After being missing for nearly eight days, Mohammed Anver Surtee (68) was found this morning drinking coffee at a petrol station near Gold Reef City.

The Lakefield resident, who has bipolar and a pacemaker, went missing from Lakefield on June 19.

His family were searching for him every days since his disappearance in Hillbrow, Fordsburg and the East Rand region.

“I’m so relieved,” said his nephew’s wife, who did not want to be named.

“He was found at the petrol station this morning at 6.30am having coffee at the garage.

“The manager must have seen a photograph of him because he called us and said we must come fetch him.”

Surtee’s nephew’s wife said she has not been able to speak to Surtee as yet, but said he was not harmed.

He was found wearing different clothes to the one’s he went missing in.

“We want to thank the Benoni Community Police Forum (CPF) because they put in a lot of work to help find him,” said the woman.

“We were fearing the worst, but we had great faith in God.”

She also thanked Bad Boy’s Security for assisting in driving the family to Hillbrow to look for their loved one.
