Operation Brightsight helps those in need

Imagine not being able to see clearly when conducting your daily duties - for many this is a daily reality.

Lions Operation Brightsight, part of Lions International, provides many unfortunate and poor people with the opportunity see clearly by assisting them in obtaining spectacles.

George MacDonald said the centre provides 100 per cent prescription lenses, which are specifically designed for an individual’s eyes, at an affordable cost.

The frames into which the lenses are fitted are recycled from donations made by members of the public.

“We operate a clinic on Tuesday, from 9am till 1pm, where Sam Grolman, a qualified optometrist, provides a service for people who have eye problems,” said MacDonald.

Since the opening of its Benoni office, in 2007, close to 19 000 scripts have been issued at the centre.

“A number of people are often in need of spectacles and we provide them with an opportunity to see properly; maybe some can get jobs because they can see better now,” said MacDonald.

If you can’t afford spectacles, but need them, visit Lions Operation Brightsight, at 110 Woburn Avenue.
