Military veterans’ dignity to be restored

Dignity will be restored to the lives of those who sacrificed their futures in the name of liberation.

The Gauteng Provincial Government has committed to addressing the plight of military veterans and ex-combatants.

On June 17, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) hosted an outreach initiative in the Germiston City Hall, aimed at addressing the socio-economic challenges facing military veterans and ex-combatants in the province.

The road shows are being held across Gauteng, to assist veterans who don’t have full means of taking care of themselves and their families, due to injuries and psychological challenges that occurred during the struggle.

Gauteng military veteran and deputy director Oratile Makgoba said the initiative is intended to identify whether veterans are happy about the services they have received and how the state can assist those who have not been accorded benefits as per the Military Act 2011.

The initiative will help in assisting registered military veterans and ex-combatants in Gauteng to get military compensation, education assistance, post-traumatic therapy, psychotherapy and eco-therapy.

The municipality calls upon all military veterans, ex-combatants and families of those who have passed to register to be placed on the database in order to acknowledge and compensate accordingly.
