The flames, which started near the taxi rank on Main Reef Road, on the border between Boksburg and Benoni, engulfed the shacks as well as a nearby truck.
“Nobody was injured in the fire, but 30 people were displaced,” said William Ntladi, media liaison officer of the Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS).
The fire department received the call around 11pm, after which two fire-fighting vehicles were sent out.
The fire was subdued by 12.45am on the Sunday.
At the time of going to press, the cause of the fire was still unknown.
