Community get dirty to fight crime

Cold weather and dust did not stifle the spirits of a group of people who embarked on the second Benoni clean-up, on June 6.

Ekurhuleni officials, community members (most of whom are from the Benoni CPF), staff from the Lakes Hotel and Conference Centre, to name a few, rallied to clean the area of land on Bunyan Street, next to the on-ramp to the N12 highway.

The first clean-up was held on May 23, in the same area.

The community cut down the overgrown vegetation, which is believed to harbour criminals before and after they commit crimes.

Nogz Moonsammy, of the Benoni CPF, said the next clean-up will return to the area and also focus on the vacant land around Deneys Conradie Residentia, on Railway Avenue.

A date is still to be determined for the next event.
