Steady recovery for Caden

Caden Slabbert (8) has started speaking a few words, but more operations are scheduled as part of his recovery.

He was struck by a brick while travelling on the N12, near The Glen Shopping Centre, on April 30.

Justin Slabbert, Caden’s father, said the little boy has been moved to the Auckland Park Netcare Rehabilitation Hospital.

“He undergoes day-to-day evaluations, but it’s hard to tell when he will fully recover, because it’s a long process,” he added.

In the next few weeks Caden is scheduled for an operation to reinsert a part of his skull, but doctors need to wait for his skull to heal.

Justin believes Caden’s recovery has been a miracle.

“It’s a miracle; people were saying he’s taking long to recover, but he has started talking; his body is getting better and he has started putting sentences together,” he said.
