VIDEO AND ARTICLE: Children praise Jesus following blanket donation

Winter's chill should be kept at bay for over 100 children and elderly people who will benefit from a 300-blanket donation to Project Feed the Children (PFTC) at the weekend.

Fit Fans, who established themselves as a group of social runners last year, made their second blanket donation to the Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) at their Cloverdene Campus on Saturday.

Chairperson of the Fit Fans, Sarah Haylock, said the running group will donate another 300 blankets to an organisation in Pretoria.

What started off as a group of friends who would regularly run, quickly changed.

Haylock said the group of runners realised last year, while running in winter, that there are folk out there who experience the full brunt of winter.

The realisation rallied the group, most of whom are from Benoni, to collect blankets for the less fortunate.

They donated 225 blankets to PFTC last year – almost tripling their collection this year.

PFTC co-founder Gail Botha said the centre is extremely grateful for the donation and she said it will go a long way in keeping people warm this winter.

“It definitely helps keep the children warm,” said Botha.

“One blanket is not enough in this cold weather; the more we can get the better.”

Botha said the donation will ensure children do not get ill as often as they will now be kept warm.

Many of the young recipients were present at the handover and sang to show their gratitude.

PFTC feeds children and senior citizens who would otherwise not get a meal.

According to the PFTC website, the project currently feeds close to 14 000 mouths per month.

They have a centre in Cloverdene, Daveyton, Delmas and Kwa-Zulu Natal.

They also subsidise several creches.
