Man (71) held up with toy gun

A 71-year-old man was awoken by three robbers, standing beside his bed, in the early hours of this morning (June 4).

One of the men was armed with a toy gun resembling a .38 Special.

The robbers entered the Auret Road property, which is in the Sunbird Estate, in Brentwood Park, at around 1am.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said they gained access into the home through a bathroom window.

“The man was asleep when he was awoken by three robbers.” said Sekele.

“One of the men had a gun and pointed it at him.

“It was later discovered that it was a toy gun.”

The criminals removed the victim’s spectacles from his bedside.

“They tied his hands and feet and then they started ransacking the house,” said Sekele.

The perpetrators exited the home through the kitchen door and fled with a Plasma TV and a cellphone.

The Brentwood Park resident, who was alone in the house, managed to untie himself and then pressed a panic button.

When the police arrived, they found the gun which the robbers left behind. Upon closer inspection they discovered that the gun was a toy.

A case of house robbery has been opened.

No arrests have been made.
