Urban market with flair

You can find almost anything to eat at the urban market in Western Extension every month.

Ivonne Taylor is the owner of the Tajine and Lemongrass restaurants on the corner of Russel Street and Woburn Avenue.

She organises a monthly urban market on the grounds of the two adjacent restaurants.

The market is organised on the last Sunday of each month, which coincides with the monthly Benoni Art Route (Taylor hosts two artists at the market).

The market includes stalls with food from a wide variety of cultures, handcraft stalls and two stalls are always made available for charity organisations, which were Hospice and Kids 4 Cancer last month.

To cater for as many people as possible, the market also has a stall selling Banting food, and a kids corner.

To further entertain the passersby, live entertainment is always present for the event.

Taylor said her goal is to eventually use the entire street as a venue for a number of showcases and entertainment, but at the moment it is not possible.
