Thirteen children injured in bakkie accident

A total of 13 children, between the age of eight and 13, were injured in a collision in Rynsoord this morning, at around 7.45am.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said a total of 25 children were involved in the accident.

Thirteen children sustained minor to moderate injuries in the collision involving a bakkie.

“Apparently the driver stated he lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle went through a wall,” said Meiring.

It is believed the bakkie first collided into another car before crashing through a wall on the corner of Helena and Albert streets.

Netcare 911 said the bakkie came to a standstill on a residential property after crashing into a stationary vehicle on the premises.

Meiring said the canopy came off when the vehicle crashed through a wall of a residential property.

Local authorities were on scene to investigate the accident.
