Service delivery protest: learners sent home from school

Residents of Emapupeni and eBumnandini are concerned about pupils missing out on school.

Schools and other properties were vandalised during a violent service delivery protest in the area yesterday (May 13).

This morning it was alleged that some protesters went to Dan Pharasi Primary School and several other schools, forcing pupils to leave.

Pupils were dismissed from school for the sake of their safety.

Matric learners at Phandimfundo Secondary High in Etwatwa are worried that if the protests continue they will miss out on a lot of work.

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) has been on high alert since yesterday’s protests, patrolling every street of the area.

This morning it was alleged that the house of Aubrey Nxumalo, the MMC of Human Settlements, would be set alight.

Councillor Lucky Cedric Mabaso’s home was torched on Tuesday evening.

Students don’t know when they will return to school and community members say they don’t feel safe.
