Rewarding to bake for elderly

A lot of work, time and thought went into winning three of the four categories in this year’s Benoni City Times Mother’s Day Cake Bake competition for Bianca Greyling.

Greyling won the bake for fun (leopard print cake with chocolate ganache), cupcakes (chocolate and vanilla cupcakes) and tarts sections (a triple chocolate pumpkin tart).

The Northvilla resident was delighted to have won and said her biggest motivation was the elderly.

The cakes were donated to various old aged homes and homes for the underprivileged persons of the community.

“I think for mothers and grandparents it is very special,” said Greyling.

“I sometimes think that’s where creativity comes from.

“I like to give to other people and show what I can do.

“The elderly are the best to bake for, they are so easy to please.

“I like to do things that I think will suit older people, grandparents and moms.”

Greyling, who has entered the competition three times now, said winning is not as important to her as learning from the feedback which is given, to her to allow her to improve her craft.

Greyling walks away with a water purifier from Buco Hardware worth R1 000, a tool set from Buco worth R650 and a pearl and Swarovski crystal bracelet from Hayward Diamonds, worth R800.
