Young Caden still asleep

Caden Slabbert (8), the boy who was struck by a brick on the N12 on April 30, has not awakened.

“He is off life support and is able to breathe on his own, but he’s still asleep,” explained his father, Rynfield resident Justin Slabbert.

The 35-year-old father of two was travelling with his son and daughter, Eden (11), on the N12 when the incident took place.

A brick was thrown into the car’s passenger window, striking Caden on the head, leaving him with a fractured skull and heavy head trauma.

The little boy had a blood transfusion on May 3 and was placed in an induced coma in the Netcare Clinton Hospital.

A couple was attacked a few minutes after the Slabberts, when the same man threw a brick through the passenger window of the car driven by Boksburg man, Darrell Badenhorst.

The brick struck his girlfriend, Marionette Schwab, who also sustained head trauma, but is in a stable condition in the Netcare Union Hospital.

Slabbert has since opened a case of attempted murder, which is being investigated by the Mondeor SAPS.
