Celebrate with Protea

This year Protea Stage Productions is 45 years old and is celebrating in proper form.

Protea started in 1970, as a boys’ choir, and presented their first stage production, The Bells of Bruges, in the Benoni Small Town Hall in 1972.

They have since continued to stage one or two productions every year.

The non-profit organisation has, over the years, sponsored local old age homes, children’s homes, schools, the SPCA, Scouts and other theatrical societies, as a means of giving back to the local community.

One of the main aims of the society is to introduce a love of theatre to the youth and underprivileged of the East Rand.

Protea are starting their year with the hilarious and famous farce, ”See How They Run”, set in 1945, to celebrate their 45th year of entertainment.

The play is filled with heart and hilariously funny moments, which will have you laughing in your seats all night long.

Take friends and family to see this theatrical pleasure, you can even book a table and take along your picnic basket, but refreshments will be on sale and there will be afternoon and evening shows.

Performances will take place at Tom Newby School, at 10 Master Street, in Airfield.

The production will run for three consecutive weekends, starting on May 22 and ending on June 6.

On Fridays (May 22, 29 and June 5) the show starts at 7.30pm, on two of the Saturdays (May 23 and 30) at 2.30pm and on Sundays (May 24 and 31) at 2.30pm.

On the last Saturday (June 6), two shows will be staged, one at 2.30pm, the second at 7.30pm.

Tickets will be available at the door or can be booked.
