Don’t be caught dumping illegally

Ward 28's Clr Mary Goby has urged people to heed the by-laws on refuse removal, by not discarding items which should not be collected by refuse collectors on their pavements.

“We are finding an increasing number of residential houses, complexes and businesses that are putting out the wrong things for collection by the refuse collectors,” said Goby.

“Door-to-door refuse collection includes only household refuse, not garden refuse or large pieces of furniture, household appliances or building rubble.

“These items must be disposed of in the correct manner, by taking them to the correct dumping site.”

Goby made this appeal after a couch was dumped on the corner of Turvey Street and Kemston Avenue, more than six weeks ago.

On April 15 the couch was still at the intersection.

Illegal dumping can lead to a R2 000 fine.
