EMPD arrest 57 for drinking and driving over Easter

The EMPD arrested 57 people for drinking and driving in Ekurhuleni over parts of the Easter weekend.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said the Metro police conducted an operation in Edenvale, Kempton Park, Benoni and Springs between April 2 and 3.

They arrested 15 people in Edenvale, 11 in Kempton Park, six in Benoni and one in Springs for drinking and driving.

Between noon on April 3 and the evening of April 4, five persons were arrests for drinking and driving in KwaTsaDuza, one in Vosloorus and 13 in Germiston North.

Five more people were arrested in Chief Albert Luthuli Park.

In addition, Kgasago said the Metro police issued 25 people with discontinue notices on their vehicles, with three vehicles impounded on suspicion of being stolen.

Eight stolen vehicles were recovered.

Five people were arrested for possession of narcotics in Germiston and Boksburg.

Three persons were nabbed in Reiger Park – one for murder and two for theft.
