Maqabe serves the community

Actonville SAPS has appointed WO Ramothakhi Maqabe as the new spokesperson for the station.

Maqabe (46), replaced Capt Mack Mngomezulu, who recently joined the provincial SAPS.

Maqabe said Actonville residents can expect a good relationship between the station’s members and the community.

“I do not like to make promises but I am here to work for them,” said Maqabe.

His duties will involve dealing with crime related issues, social issues and any other crime related matters.

Maqabe has been involved with the police since 1993, when he trained in Pretoria.

From then, he served as a constable and a sergeant for Etwatwa SAPS.

From 2006 to 2009, he worked as a spokesperson for the Etwatwa SAPS, and then moved to Actonville SAPS to work within the management information centre.

In May 2014, he was promoted to sector commander which allowed him to work closely with the public.

Maqabe holds the development of young children close to his heart, and he aims to try and stop them from getting involved in crime and drugs.

“Within our soccer academy we have u-11, u-15 and u-17 soccer teams, which are open to anyone interested in joining.

“A number of the children in the teams are from Etwatwa and Welgedag,” said Maqabe.

The children are taught football and life skills that they use to keep themselves away from crime.

In 2007, Maqabe received an award from the Etwatwa community for the good work he had done within the community.
