Motorcyclist seriously injured en route to Northmead school

A 17-year-old boy was transported to hospital in a serious condition this morning after an accident on Hanekam Street.

The Hoërskool Hans Moore pupil was riding his motorbike to school when an SUV apparently collided into the side of the bike, at around 7.15am.

ER24 JHB East spokesperson Glen Orritt said paramedics arrived on scene and found the teenager lying in the road in a conscious state.

“He suffered serious injuries and had a badly broken leg,” said Orritt.

The victim was transported to Life the Glynnwood Hospital.

Traffic was backed up on Hospital Road and Hanekam Street this morning due to the accident.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Authorities will investigate the collision.
