‘Customers’ order pizza and cash to go

The men walked in and placed an order before robbing the restaurant

Two men pretending to be customers at a takeaway restaurant on 11th Avenue got away with an undisclosed amount of money as well as a firearm taken from a CMS officer.

According to Benoni SAPS media officer, Const Zunickha Essakjee, the men came into the restaurant at about 8.40pm on Sunday and ordered a meal.

“While the men were waiting for their order, one of the robbers who had a gun, jumped over the counter and demanded money,” she said.

The manager told the cashier to hand over the cash in the register to the robbers who demanded it be put in a plastic bag.

“The cashier managed to press the panic button which alerted CMS. An officer arrived on the scene while the robbery was still in progress and he was disarmed by the armed robber,” added Essakjee.

The two robbers then got away on foot. Police are investigating a case of business robbery.
