Explosion of colours at Rainbow Walk and Run

Over 3 000 people sweated it out as they participated in the Benoni Rainbow Colours Walk and Run, on Sunday.

The event was held at the Willowmoore Park Stadium and saw many people participate in either a 5km or 10km walk and run.

The event started at the stadium and raced through Western Extension and Lakefield, ending back at the stadium.

Benoni Rainbow Colours Walk and Run committee members were pleased with the large turnout for the race.

The aim for the event was to promote togetherness and health awareness.

“We hope this will be a yearly event, because we would like to broaden participation from the community,” said committee member Rita Ranchod.

The theme was Blending and Shaping Togetherness, starting with everyone wearing white and ending the race in explosions of colours.

“We think this marks an important milestone for people coming together to have fun and linking it to a bigger purpose,” said Ranchod.

”That purpose is uniting the community in spirit with colourful paints, as colour has the ability to affect our moods and our reactions.”

She said that when the proceeds were confirmed they would be donated to an Actonville charity.

Another theme was allowing people to go beyond what they think they can do.

After completing the race, participants were given medals for their effort.
