Successful fundraiser for Cansa

The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) received a healthy sum of money from a "maplotter tea", held in Marister, late last year.

A total of R6 500 was donated to Cansa from the proceeds of the event.

October was Breast Cancer Month and 30 women made an effort to dress-up for the occasion.

The cost of the tea was R150 per entry and this included a goody bag and an informative talk by Janene Mcmaster, about breast cancer and self-examination of the breasts.

Tea and eats were served.

“Some extraordinary efforts were made by some of the attendees,” said Stephanie Pearse, fund-raising director on the East Rand for Cansa,

“Josephine “Jozi” Kunene knitted 20 sets of beanies and scarves that were donated to Cansa.

“Much more than the entry fee was paid by some women.”

Part of the entry fee was a black bag filled with clothing and, on the Tuesday after the party, 36 bags with clothes and toys were delivered to Hospice East Rand.
