According to Capt Tsekiso Mofokeng, provincial SAPS spokesperson, police received information from Chief Albert Luthuli Park residents that some of the miners were still in the area.
A Tembisa Tactical Response Unit went in search of the illegal miners.
The three suspects were traced to the bushes next to the N12 bridge, close to Chief Albert Luthuli Park, where one was shot dead by police, and the other two were arrested.
Four bodies were found this morning; one hidden in the bushes at Chief Albert Luthuli Park, two next to the Daveyton Main Road and another in the bushes close to the mineshaft.
Mofokeng said police officers may go back into the informal settlement to search for more suspects.
