Brainstorm blessed with enormous donation

The Brainstorm Support Group, which operates in Benoni, received a generous donation of R101 500 from Camargue, on January 28.

This is the second year that the association received a large donation from the specialised liability management company.

Once again, the company raised funds through the Karoo to Coast Cycle Challenge, where the public sponsored each kilometre.

This year the challenge raised R50 750 and the company decided to double the amount.

Camargue managing director Mitch Marescia and Brainstorm member Larry Lombaard have a very close friendship.

Marescia saved Lombaard’s life a few years ago when he, a sports journalist at the time, was attacked by gang members.

Marescia drove past Lombaard lying in the street and felt the need to help him.

Chairwoman of Brainstorm Sheldene Reynolds described the donation as a true blessing.

“Up to now we have only relied on our own fund-raising and small membership fees to operate.

“Having a corporate contribution makes a substantial financial difference,” she said.

Reynolds said the donation will contribute to the purchasing of a bus in order to transport individuals who are in need of their services, but cannot access them.

Brainstorm was founded by Reynolds, who is an occupational therapist, and speech therapist Ruthanne Sedgwick in 2006, after identifying the need of a support group for brain injury and stroke survivors on the East Rand.

They currently run two days a week, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 9am to noon at 81 Mowbray Street, Benoni..
