Equipping Actonville children at book and stationery drive

As the school year began, children from Actonville and surrounding areas were provided with the educational resource material they needed.

The book and stationery drive took place on Saturday, January 17, and saw many less fortunate children benefit from the initiative.

They were provided with books, pencils and pens to use at school.

Haseena Ismail, DA PR councillor, hosts the event every year in order to emphasise the importance of education.

“My aim is to give the youth the education they deserve, to lay the foundation for the school year and and also to make the children realise that drugs and crime are not an option,” said Ismail.

Michele Clarke, DA member of the Provincial Legislature, delivered a similar message.

“I think it is a wonderful event the DA has hosted today; going forward we would like to make this initiative bigger and better,” she said.

The book drive will also be extended to areas in the old Actonville, Wattville informal settlement and hostels in the surrounding area.
