Man robbed after withdrawing money

People must be alert when withdrawing large sums of money as they could be targeted by criminals.

Daveyton SAPS spokesperson Sgt Constance Moalusi, sent this message to the public after a man was robbed shortly after drawing money from Eastgate Shopping Centre, on January 8.

Moalusi said the victim withdrew an undisclosed amount of money and drove to a motor spares shop, in Heald Street, Daveyton.

Five armed men are believed to have followed him into Daveyton.

The gunmen instructed the victim to lie on the floor and hand the money he had drawn over to them.

Moalusi said community members saw the commotion and notified police.

The police responded immediately and a gunfight broke out.

One of the suspects was hit in the back and wounded.

The injured suspect is still in hospital under police guard.

Another suspect was arrested on the scene.

The unharmed suspect was expected to appear in the Daveyton Magistrates Court on January 15.

A case of attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of a stolen vehicle has been opened against the two suspects.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the three accomplices can contact Lieut Col Charles Ramohope on 011 845 9800.
