Shané hopes to dazzle in Miss SA 2015

Shané Naidoo, from Farrarmere, hopes to impress the judges and make the cut as a top 10 finalist for the Miss South Africa 2015 pageant.

The 22-year-old is one of the 24 semi-finalists who are currently being judged, at Sun City, for a converted spot.

She decided to enter the pageant because she believes in the message the pageant represents.

“I have always admired what the Miss SA pageant stands for and I could easily identify with the role of what a Miss SA should embody,” she said.

“I believe strongly in women empowerment in our country and across the world.”

Naidoo believes that strong, confident and passionate women are going to become leaders, and she would like to become a leader for South Africa.

“I entered the pageant in order to fulfil my social goals and make a positive difference in our beautiful country; I also hope to embark on journey of self-discovery and growth,” she said.

Even though this is her first time entering a pageant, she has taken the opportunity to learn and grow from the new experience.

“I hope this experience grows me as an individual and gives me the chance to magnify my strengths and overcome my weaknesses.

“The pageant opens many doors for its contestants, in terms of modelling, as well as providing them with skills to excel at any career they choose,” said Naidoo.

Since she matriculated from Benoni High School in 2009, she has been studying industrial engineering at Wits University.

The course allows her to embrace and sharpen her logic.

“The course is based on optimising and improving systems and, although I do have a creative side to my personality, the course allows me to develop both my strengths,” she said.

“I believe pageants are relevant now more than ever.

“In a society where our youth are bombarded with negativity, this platform allows us to show positive aspects about our country, as well as to serve as a positive role model in society.”

Naidoo said the pageant has a new look and feel, which she thinks is more identifiable with the youth.

She believes our country needs women leaders and, if she wins Miss SA, she will focus on encouraging young women to take on leadership roles within society.

“Studying engineering has opened my eyes to the lack of women in the industry and women have their own unique way of problem solving,” she said.

Her biggest supporters are her parents, Rajen and Suvesha, and her sister, Merishka.

Naidoo has also been bitten by the ”active bug” and loves to exercise.

“I do everything, from road running to weight training and powerboxing, as I love to break a sweat and release some stress,” she added.

Her advice to future Miss SA pageant hopefuls, is not to focus on being successful, but to focus on being significant and the success will follow.

Having finished her three year degree, she plans to complete her honours degree in industrial engineering.

“I also hope to work in the industry for a few years in order to gain valuable skills and experience in my field,” said Naidoo.

She would also like to become a successful business women.

The top 10 Miss SA contestants will be announced in early February and the final event will take place on March 29.
