Benoni SPCA needs a vehicle urgently

Benoni SPCA is appealing for funding as a vehicle accident has left the organisation stranded without transport.

The accident took place on Saturday, November 22, when Benoni SPCA personnel, Renee Rossolimos and Johnny Pieterse, were responding to a call to assist an injured dog, on Great North Road.

The SPCA vehicle was stationary, with its hazard lights on, when a vehicle hit it from behind, launched over the SPCA van and came to rest on its roof.

Rossolimos has been released from hospital, and Pieterse was unhurt as he was out of the vehicle trying to catch the dog.

Both the NSPCA and the Benoni SPCA are determined that animals will not suffer as a result of the lack of a vehicle.

The vehicle was insured but, according to the SPCA, the pay-out takes time and the write-off value will barely cover the cost of a new vehicle.

The end of the year also marks one of the busiest times for the organisation, and without a vehicle they will not be able to cover the needs within the community to rescue animals.

A replacement vehicle is needed urgently.

The SPCA is also appealing to anyone who has seen the injured German Shepherd, which was not recovered because of the accident, to contact the society.

It is suspected that the dog might still be in the vicinity of Great North Road, around Webb Street.

It has an injury on its back near the tail and if anyone has seen the dog, they can contact the Benoni SPCA on 011 849 2814.
