Meet the tall, dark and handsome Mr Benoni

If he could have one wish it would be to have a Lamborghini, the smooth winner of the Mr Benoni 2014 title, Robert Breedt, had the judges know.

The Mr and Miss Benoni finals of 2014 were held at the Kopanong Hotel on Sunday, October 26, where Farrarmere resident Breedt was co-crowned with Miss Benoni 2014, Chanley Wong.

Robert, a former St Dunstan’s College pupil, is 21 years old and is currently obtaining his commercial private pilot’s licence through the Aviation Training Academy (ATA Express).

Flying is his passion and it is his dream to establish a career as an airline pilot.

He told the City Times he has always had an interest in aircraft and initially wanted to study towards a degree in aeronautical engineering.

However, after his father arranged with friends at ATA for him to go on a flight when he was 16, he had a change of heart and decided to pilot planes.

He has his private pilot’s licence and can fly small planes at this stage.

Robert still owns and values the signatures of international pilots, which he got at the 1995 Waterkloof Airshow, to which his parents took him on his second birthday, on October 7.

He believes his love for planes might also have stemmed from this occasion.

Robert also enjoys photography, especially wildlife photography and loves visiting nature reserves, such as the Kruger National Park, where he can practise this hobby.

Despite a busy schedule he still commits to working at the Brentwood Pharmacy part-time, which he started doing around two years ago.

He enjoys this mostly for the interesting new people he gets to meet.

He also enjoys a game of golf every so often.

Robert has been modelling with Rampage Modelling Agency since February and it was his first time entering the Mr and Miss Benoni pageant.

Despite being gleeful that he won Mr Benoni 2014, he was not anticipating it.

“I was so relaxed and just wanted to have as much fun as possible,” he said.

“I did take the competition seriously, but had more fun than anything.”

He praised his modelling coach, Lindi Lopes, for playing a big role in his achievement.

“I would not have been able to do Mr Benoni without Lindi, who taught me everything I needed to know about the pageant,” he said.

He added that last year’s Miss Benoni winner, Giselle Dos Santos, taught him how to walk with a partner on a ramp.

During his reign he is hoping to lend a helping hand to the community and to use the title as a stepping stone to enter more pageants and competitions in the future.

He particularly wants to get involved with providing computer education to the children of Haven Care Centre.

He and Chanley plan on doing their projects collaboratively this year.
