Hans Moore cricketers take first place in Easterns Platinum League

Hoërskool Hans Moore’s first cricket team were making waves on the schools’ cricketing scene as they stormed to number one spot in the final of the Easterns Platinum League, recently.

The team defeated Kempton Park (twice, once in the semi-finals), Jeugland (the first time in five years at first team level), Benoni High School, an Easterns XI, Hoërskool Hugenote and Hoërskool Die Anker, and suffered a defeat against Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen.

The team finished second in the final league standings, behind EG Jansen, and defeated Kempton Park by three wickets in the semi-final, to set up a clash with EG Jansen in the final.

Hans Moore had lost to the Boksburg-based school on three occasions this year, by the narrowest of margins, ensuring that the final would be hotly contested away from home.

The team were finally able to overcome their bogey opponents in the match that counted, winning by a single wicket.

The school has a bright cricketing future, with four u-16 and two u-15 players in the first XI.

They will now represent Easterns in the Gunn and Moore tournament and challenge winning schools from other provinces.

Their first fixture will be a quarter-final against Menlo Park, from Pretoria.
