Guinness Record: pet food collected saved many animals’ lives

While a local business is still waiting to hear the results of its attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most pet food collected, it is pleased that the food has saved the lives of many animals.

Re/Max Randgro will find out in the next two to three weeks if its collection of 15 493kg of pet food, by 10am on March 3, makes it the record holder.

“We sent everything through to London for arbitration,” said Teri de Beer, sales associate at Re/Max Randgro.

She described the logistics of having to record every item and deliver the pet food to various charities as ”mind blowing” and added that they had so much fun.

The project, she said, was a huge success.

They had to get a person who is qualified in stock or risk management to assist in recording every item on a sheet and give it a stock number, and get a lawyer to monitor that everything was recorded properly.

The food was donated and physically delivered by staff members to the Benoni, Kempton Park, Brakpan and the Boksburg SPCAs and to between 30 and 36 other charities in the country.

Benoni High School collected the most food in the school’s category and was rewarded with R1 000.
