Mayor wishes matrics well for exams

Parents and teachers must give children all the necessary support and ensure they are focused throughout their examination period.

This was the message from the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubele, less than a week before the matric class of 2014 will sit for the examinations.

“Education is the key to success and it all begins with the examination you are about to sit for,” said Gungubele.

“You have done well to get where you are in life right now and I am sure you know that this exam marks another milestone in your efforts to carve the future that you wish for yourself as an adult South African.”

Gungubele, who is a former teacher, appealed to the youngsters to work even harder throughout the examination process, despite challenges that may threaten their success on the road ahead.

He urged parents and teachers to give their children all the necessary support and to make sure that they remain focused all the way.

“We must continue to help our children realise and comprehend the fact that education is the key to the future prospects of South Africa,” the mayor said.

“The more educated we are the brighter the future of the country going forward.

“Through education we shall triumph against the triple challenges facing our country – unemployment, poverty and inequality.”

The DA has also wished matrics well.

“We are confident that students will use this final week of preparation to maximise on a year of hard work,” said a DA press release.

“The DA thanks dedicated parents and educators who have gone the extra mile to ensure that these young people are equipped to sit for their finals.

“We hope that this final leg of schooling will be a successful one and that students will use this opportunity as a springboard to greater things.”

The exams officially start on October 27 and results will be released on January 6, next year.
