Man (43) arrested for sexually abusing niece (4) is linked to raping another child (6)
A 43-year-old man was arrested by the Daveyton police for sexually abusing his four-year-old niece on Monday, October 21.
Benoni SAPS cluster police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said it is alleged that the man took the victim from the street, where she was playing with other kids, to his house.
One of the children ran to inform the victim’s uncle, who then went to the suspect’s house to investigate what was happening.
“Upon the uncle’s arrival at the house, the suspect tried to close the door to prevent him from entering, but the man forced it open,” said Sekele.
The suspect then told the uncle that the child was sleeping.
The uncle proceeded to the suspect’s bedroom, where he found the child naked in bed.
Police were called and the suspect was arrested.
Further investigation by the Family Violence and Child Protection Unit linked the same person to another sexual offence, committed in October 2011, against a six-year-old child.
The suspect appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court on October 22, and both cases were postponed to October 30, to allow him to get legal representation.
He was remanded in custody.
