Police make 162 arrests

The Benoni SAPS cluster arrested 162 suspects between September 29 and October 4, during different crime operations.

Benoni SAPS cluster spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said: “They were arrested for crimes ranging from, theft, possession of dagga, being in the country illegally, common robbery, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of suspected stolen property, to possession of an unlicensed firearm, illegal mining, housebreaking and theft, being drunk in public, reckless and negligent driving and malicious damage to property.”

Some of the suspects have already appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court, while others will be appearing from October 6.

The Benoni acting cluster commander, Brig Poobalan Subbiah, thanked all the other role players, such as CPF members, EMPD officers and the security companies, who always work hand-in-hand with the SAPS.
