Police crack drug syndicate, arrest four dealers

Police moved swiftly in arresting four drug dealers, following a tip-off on September 30.

Benoni SAPS cluster spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said a good crime intelligence-driven operation, jointly with the EMPD tracing unit, led to the arrest of four men, aged between 28 and 35, in Daveyton.

“All four were arrested for possession of drugs at different houses,” said Sekele.

Drugs, including Cat and rocks, were confiscated during the arrests.

Sekele added that, while members were busy with the operation, they received additional information about a suspect in possession of a firearm, at the Mayfield Taxi Rank, in Putfontein, and they proceeded there.

The suspect was spotted driving a marked Benoni Taxi Association vehicle and they immediately stopped him.

Upon searching him and the vehicle, they found a firearm with no serial number and the suspect could not provide a licence.

He was arrested.

All the suspects were detained at the Daveyton SAPS and will be appearing in the Benoni Magistrates Court soon.
