DA launches petition after water shortages

The DA has launched a petition which calls for the government to be held accountable for the water shortages in Gauteng.

The petition calls on the Ministers of Public Enterprises, Energy, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, and Water and Sanitation to investigate the “Gauteng Water Crisis”.

It also requests that measures be taken to prevent a water shortage from occurring again.

“Despite reassurances to the contrary, the knock-on effect of the crisis has rapidly spread, with more and more reservoirs and water towers running dry,” said DA MP Mike Waters.

“While residents demanded answers, local and provincial government departments, Rand Water and Eskom shifted the blame onto everybody else but themselves, leaving residents with more questions than answers.”

Parts of Benoni were without water, or had a sporadic supply, for over a week.

Water was restored on Saturday, last week.

  1. After the article in the Benoni City Times dated 26 September 2014 regarding “where did the water go?” there is no contact details or email address that we can use to complaint or report.
We have reported a bursting pipe on the pavement 13 Lucerne Street Lakefield. This is clear water that is running down the street. This is already going on for two years!?!?!
Please forward this to the relevant department to come and fix this or take come and take a photo and place it in the news paper so that every body can see how water is wasted.
