Wordsworth pupil killed, school sends heartfelt condolences

A 17-year-old Wordsworth High School learner was killed in her home, in Etwatwa, on September 16.

Mbali Innocent Masango, a matric pupil, was stabbed to death at around midday.

A member of the community notified the Benoni City Times of the murder and alleged rape, but police said claims of rape could not be confirmed.

The girl, who was due to write her preliminary examinations today, was at home studying when the incident occurred.

Her lifeless body was discovered by her friend who went over to study for today’s exam with her.

Benoni SAPS cluster spokesperson Tryna Maritz said the pupil was stabbed in the neck with a sharp object.

She added that an investigation would have to be carried out to establish if she was raped.

Maritz said a murder case has been opened.

No one has been arrested so far and police are following up on information.

Acting Wordsworth High School principal Madoda Mzangwa described the incident as tragic.

“The girl’s family was here this morning and we would like to send our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to them,” said Mzangwa.

  1. This a real tragedy and a shock to me. I’m staying in Mpumalanga and when I saw this story I was shaking thinking of my baby cousin who also is a Wordsworth student also staying in Etwatwa. This could have happen to any family and I hope the community will work with the police to catch the perpetrator(s).
