Three men arrested for robbing Benoni Spar

The Actonville SAPS have arrested three men in connection with a robbery at the Benoni Spar, at the corner of Tom Jones Street and Ampthill Avenue, on Saturday, September 13, at about 7.30pm.

“It is alleged that seven armed men entered the Spar and held staff members and customers at gunpoint,” said Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele.

They assaulted the manager and forced one of the workers to open tills and the safe.

The men took an undisclosed amount of cash, cartons of cigarettes and airtime and fled in a Toyota Quantum.

On Sunday, police received a tip-off which led them to the Actonville Hostel, where three suspects were arrested.

The three men are being detained in the Benoni SAPS cells and will soon appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court.

The investigation is continuing.

Sekele said the manager was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

The police are appealing to the community to pass on information regarding crimes and to report any suspicious criminal activities.

The can phone 10111 with any information.
