Cammarata’s designs make it to Fashion Week Vegas

Designs by local fashion designer Funeka Angel Cammarata were among those shown on the runway during Fashion Week Las Vegas.

The event was held from August 18 to 21 and Cammarata’s studio, Déjà vu Designs, situated in Benoni, was showcased on the opening day.

Seventeen designs from her summer collection were included in the show.

Cammarata was one of six designers from South Africa, who also participated in Soweto Fashion Week, who attended Fashion Week Las Vegas.

She said models were provided at the event and she could select those who were suitable for her designs.

Cammarata has attended fashion weeks in other countries, but this was her first experience of Fashion Week Las Vegas.

“It was an amazing experience and an eye-opener,” she said.

“Seeing my work on the ramp in Vegas was a huge opportunity, for which I am grateful.”

She added that there were plenty of fashion buyers and she received good exposure, including being interviewed by a radio station and various publications.

Cammarata said she has always longed to be an international designer who works in a global market.

“This opportunity has had a great impact on my vision; I was inspired to work even harder and never lose ambition,” she said.

“This is a great channel through which South African fashion can rise and aim for the stars.”

Déjà vu Designs claimed the South African Association Youth Club (SAAYC) Entrepreneurship Award earlier this year. Click here to read the article.
