Man who shared room with girlfriend’s corpse two days after killing her hands himself over

A 45-year-old Daveyton man handed himself over to the police, after he strangled his girlfriend.

Police spokesman Capt Alfred Nakana said the man turned up at the police station today (September 16), to report that he had killed his girlfriend.

He apparently strangled her on Sunday night, but thought she had fainted.

“He arrived at the station; informed the police that he had killed a person and provided them with the address where the corpse could be found,” said Nakana.

Police proceeded to the address and found the body of an unidentified woman, believed to be in her late 30s.

The suspect’s mother told the police that her son called her to his room today, to show her the woman’s body, which he had hidden under the bed.

He then fled the scene.

Nakana said the man has been charged with murder and will appear soon in the Benoni Magistrates Court.
