A blaze, which started in the early hours of Sunday morning, razed the premises of Pick a Tyre on the corner of Tom Jones Street and Harpur Avenue.

The fire, which spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services Vincent Khoza said is believed to have originated in the next door building, Joe’s Automotive Paints, started at about 2am.

Khoza said numerous vehicles were called to the scene to quell the blaze. These included five pumps, two water tankers and one foam tanker which were manned by about 40 firefighting personnel.

They managed to prevent the blaze spreading and it was brought under control by about 3.30am.

No-one was injured in the fire but three vehicles were damaged.

Khoza made special mention of help from ELB whose bulldozer and personnel were used to assist the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services in their fire control.

Fire investigators will determine the cause of the blaze.
