Rynfield shootout: bloodied, hijacked car recovered in Brakpan

A VW Polo hijacked during yesterday's (September 11) shootout between criminals, police and members of the public, in Rynfield, was found abandoned in Brakpan.

During the shootout, the three men hijacked the silver VW Polo and fled the scene.

The Polo’s driver, however, opened fire on the hijackers and injured one of them.

The hijackers travelled to Brakpan North and abandoned the car along Hospital Road.

It was found by police at about 2pm.

Blood spots were seen on one of the vehicle’s rear doors, and the interior was covered in blood.

Police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said it proves that one of the suspects was injured during the shooting.

Police are still looking for the men.

Sekele said the red Polo the robbers abandoned during the shootout in Rynfield was also found to have been stolen, in Crystal Park.
