Improved facilities for Oliver’s House

Oliver's House recently received a donation from Graphic Image Technologies (GIT), towards their education centre and HIV/Aids awareness class.

The funding will assist in the daily operations for lunches, text books and stationery for the 80 students and the salaries of teachers.

Laurence Smith, executive at GIT, said the donations will benefit the children and and enrich their lives.

“Providing these students with the means to excel at school and giving them the support around HIV/Aids, will enrich their lives and ensure that they’re able to move beyond their current circumstances,”he said.

“This will give them an opportunity to create a brighter future for themselves.”

The education centre at Oliver’s House was started in 2004, with an aim of assisting students from informal settlements by providing them with additional classes, facilities, qualified teachers and books to improve their grades.

Charles Mahlangu, principal of the centre, expressed his delight at the financial support from GIT.

“Their financial support has contributed to the success of the classes we offer,” he said.

“Furthermore, the classes and improvement in grades has enabled Oliver’s House to be recognised by the Department of Education, who now assist with school-based assessments.”
