Readers dispute cleanest city claim

The City Times readers don't believe that Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality is the cleanest city in Gauteng.

A number of our reader’s made their views heard on our Facebook page, in the comment section, about Ekurhuleni being awarded the title of the cleanest city at the Bontle ke Botho clean and green awards.

These are just some of the 33 comments relating to the story:

Patricia Pollitt said: “Well then, I would just hate to see the others. Benoni and Kempton Park are so filthy, I think someone needs new spectacles.”

Michael Dowie said: “Someone got a tender to say that.”

Lutfiya Rawat said: “Nope not clean. Outside Damelin on Prince’s Avenue and in town opposite the Plaza, it’s so filthy. The water just runs and it has an odour that you have to block your nose.”

Tiaan Pretorius said: ” I was at council on Friday morning, and I had to dodge a dead pigeon and rubbish blowing in wind just to get from my car to the front door.”

Gareth Coats said: “I guess they didn’t take the raw sewage spilling into the Atlasville Vlei or Homestead Dam into account then?”
