Metro Police spokesman Wilfred Kgasago said an articulated truck from Durban, laden with a huge cargo of rice, was hijacked on the N3, near Vosloorus, on September 3.
The suspects drove the truck to Springs, where the cargo was off-loaded.
Kgasago said the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Community Liaison Unit members managed to pick up the signal of the truck on the N12 highway, near the Snake Road off-ramp.
“One suspect was arrested while the other managed to flee and evade arrest,” said Kgasago.
The legitimate driver of the truck was found in the cabin of the vehicle, with his hands and feet bound and his mouth taped.
“The arrested suspect led the Metro Police to the Nuffield Industrial Area, in Springs, where 11 suspects, including two Pakistanis, were caught red-handed packing the rice into a storage place,” said Kgasago.
All were arrested and charged with possession of stolen goods.
They are expected to appear in the Benoni and Springs Magistrates Courts.
