Benoni police Spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said it is believed that the woman had just withdrawn money from a bank in Benoni when she was forced into an unknown vehicle, on August 28.
“It is further alleged that she was robbed of her cash and forced to drink rat poison,” said Sekele.
She was then dropped off on the N12 highway, from where she apparently contacted a member of her church, who took her to the Far East Rand Hospital.
The woman died in hospital on August 29.
Sekele said the police are still trying to establish all the details leading to the woman’s death.
A case of murder has been opened, but no one has been arrested so far.
