Former Benoni top cop heads Flying Squad and Dog Unit

Former Benoni police cluster commander Brig Shirley Venter has been given more responsibilities in the SAPS.

Venter, the 10111 command centre commander, now heads the Gauteng Flying Squad and the Dog Unit.

The instruction came from the Gauteng provincial police commissioner last week..

Speaking to the City Times from Cape Town, the excited Venter said: “It’s a challenge and I’m capable of doing it.”

She is armed with 38 years experience as a police officer and also served as station commander for the Benoni police.

Benoni CPF executive chairperson Reza Patel congratulated Venter on her new responsibilities and said the CPF is elated.

Patel said: “At last one of the most vital operational posts has been filled.

“That, too, by a seasoned career policewoman who comes through the ranks without favour.”
