House owner shoots suspect in house robbery

A property owner in Rynsoord shot one of the eight men who tried to rob his house this morning (August 13).

Benoni police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said the eight armed men travelling in two cars entered the property with the intention to rob it.

“The domestic worker was about to leave the house when she noticed them,” said Sekele.

The woman screamed and this alerted the owner, who was in the house at the time.

The owner took his gun and approached the door.

“One of the men pointed a firearm at him as soon as he got out of the door, but the owner managed to shoot first, hitting one of the suspects and injuring him, ” said Sekele.

The men picked up their injured accomplice, ran out of the property and drove away.

At the time of publishing, police had received a tip-off from the Far East Rand Hospital that they had admitted a person with a gunshot wound.

“We are still waiting for confirmation,” said Sekele.
