Sewage leak at Korsman resolved

The ongoing sewage leak at the Korsman Bird Sanctuary, which was brought to the Ekuruleni Metro's attention for urgent attendance, has been repaired.

In an article in which the City Times reported on the leak, a week ago, Clr Mary Goby, in whose ward the sanctuary falls, said the leak has been an “on and off problem” that never seems to be resolved.

Chairwoman of the Korsman Conservancy Jane Trembath said the frogs were mainly at risk, due to their thin skins, which absorb toxins from the water.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the sewer blockage has been cleared.

“The leak was caused by the insertion of solid material into the pipe line from the surrounding residential areas,” he said.

According to him, the leak did not affect the sanctuary or any surroundings.

Trembath confirmed that the leak was repaired.
