No suspension for top cop implicated in fraud

The local high-ranking police officer implicated in fraud has not been suspended.

National police spokesman Lieut Solomon Makgale did not answer our enquiry on the suspension, but the City Times understands the officer is continuing with her duties as usual.

Makgale said only that the 49-year-old officer appeared briefly in the Moroka Magistrate Court, in Soweto, on possible charges of fraud.

She was released on bail of R2 000 and warned to appear on August 18, for further investigations.

“It is alleged that, while recruiting entry level candidates for the Moroka policing area, the officer unprocedurally changed the recommended list of recruits to include three candidates who had not met the SAPS criteria,” said Makgale.

“It is believed that the three candidates were known to her at the time of appointment.”
