Benoni Rotary inducts Ian Williams

In line with this year's Rotary theme, "Light up Rotary", the Rotary Club of Benoni graced the sky with a display of Chinese lanterns, at their annual induction dinner, on Tuesday, June 24.

Ian Williams was inducted as president of the club for the 2013/2014 Rotary year.

He will be taking the reins from outgoing president Leatitia Fourie, who could not attend the function.

Incoming District Governor of Rotary International’s District 9400, Annie Steijn, inducted Williams for the new year and inspired the club with a motivational talk.

The Benoni Rotary Anns will be working closely with the Rotary club this year in support of the District Governor’s vision.

The City Times reported on her last month, when she announced her theme for the year would be: “Make a difference together”.

She aims to increase membership, contribute to the Rotary Foundation and get the youth more involved with Rotary.

This year’s committee is made up of club president Williams, treasurer Chris Deacon, secretary Adele Lockyer, and Ann Dicks, public relations.

The club members dined together at the Beijing, in Lakefield Square, where they released lanterns in the spirit of Rotary.

No awards could be presented at the function, due to Fourie’s absence, and this will be postponed for another occasion.

The evening was made memorable by beautiful décor in the bright purple and red Rotary colours for this year, and Chinese props added to the merriment.
